"The Science of Self-Defense" - Grandmaster John Pellegrini

Our Club -
We are a private club of adult students and instructors dedicated to learning, practicing, and internalizing methods and techniques of self defense. The club primarily utilizes the curriculum of the International Combat Hapkido Federation and is a charter member of that organization. Our ICHF certified instructors also teach other viable and practical techniques from various martial and defensive arts to provide a well rounded package of practical self preservation knowledge. As a situational self defense system, we don’t teach fighting and we don’t have competitions. Ours is a simple approach to self protection from both unarmed and armed assault. We specialize in empty hand defenses and also teach defense against blunt objects, edged weapons, and hand guns. Ground defense, seated techniques, and other situational responses are a part of what we do as well. Our curriculum is ICHF approved and we teach a belted system. This club observes traditional oriental martial arts customs and courtesies. Our membership is by invitation only; see "First Steps" for invitation information.

Chon Tu Kwan Hapkido -
In 1989, internationally recognized Hapkido Grandmaster John Pellegrini began conducting Hapkido seminars around the country, gaining a strong following in the Martial Arts community. He called his style “Combat Hapkido” to identify his mission of self defense instruction and to distinguish his system from other traditional Hapkido styles. Chon Tu Kwan Hapkido is an extremely realistic and versatile discipline of self-protection that includes an extensive variety of strikes, kicks, joint locks, pressure points, ground survival, and disarming techniques. The result is a practical, comprehensive self defense system that is enjoyable to learn and truly effective in realistic situations. It is well suited for men and women of all ages and sizes because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential. In 1992 Grandmaster Pellegrini structured a unique curriculum and founded the International Combat Hapkido Federation as the official Governing Body to issue Certifications to students and instructors worldwide. In March 1999 Combat Hapkido or Chon-Tu Kwan Hapkido was officially registered and accredited as a legitimate “Kwan” of Hapkido by the World Ki-Do Federation as recognized by the South Korean Government. The name Chon Tu Kwan Hapkido is our official Kwan name. The ICHF continues to grow and prosper with schools and clubs worldwide. We are proud to be affiliated with Grandmaster Pellegrini and the ICHF.

First Steps -
We encourage interested parties to contact our Master Instructor Van Palmer, to schedule an appointment to visit one of our class sessions. This step allows you to view a class, watch how we instruct, see the interaction between students and instructors, and ask questions. As our membership is by invitation only, we can then better decide if membership will be a good fit for our club and for you.
